Why YOU Should Start a Blog

I started this blog back in 2016, right before I graduated high school. Since then, I have posted about so many memories, adventures, and travels. I am so thankful I decided to start blogging when I did, and I believe everyone should look into creating their own! This is, in my opinion, why should go for it:

1. It’s a creative outlet

Whether you’re still in school or not, you need to have a way to let your creative juices flow. Having a blog allows you to share pictures, writing, and more. You can post it for yourself or for others, but either way, a blog gives you a wonderful place to be creative.

2. You can do what you want

Your blog is YOUR BLOG. You can literally do whatever you want on it. You can post about food, your travels, religion and politics, dreams and goals, hobbies, likes, dislikes, whatever you desire. There are so many types of blogs out there, and having your own gives you the chance to post anything and everything.

3. You’ll be able to look back at past experiences, emotions, and adventures.

This is one of my favorite reasons for blogging. I love looking back and reading about past trips that I took, reading about my senior year of high school or first year of college, and remembering how I felt when I first got engaged. I’m SO GLAD I documented my entire Disney College Program in a blog. It’s basically my journal of the entire experience, and I love reading through it.

4. It’s free

There are so many blogging platforms out there to choose from: WordPress, Wix, Blogger, Weebly, and more. The good thing about each one is that they all offer free versions! Your URL will have their website at the end (like how mine ends in “.wordpress.com”) but it’s FREE so who cares? You can pay for an upgraded version of each website as well, if you want to get really into it.

5. It’s a comfortable space to say what you want, when you want.

This goes along with some things I said above, but having your own blog gives you the freedom to post whatever you want. If you want to post a ton of pictures from a trip you just took, drop them all on your blog! If you want to write a political argument but don’t want to start a fight with someone on Facebook, write a blog post about it! Blogging gives you more freedom than any other social media platform.

6. It’s easy

Starting a blog is so easy. I only have experience with WordPress and Wix, but templates make it simple to get your own website up and running. You don’t have to be a computer genius to choose your favorite template and change the color scheme to make it match your personality. If you do find it difficult, there are tons of tutorials online that can make different processes even more simple!

7. You can make money

A lot of bloggers get so many readers that they build up influence. If you’re willing to spend time developing your own personal brand, you can turn blogging into a paying job. This is not something I’ve ever done (my blog is more of a personal journal for me) but it is definitely an option, and there is tons of information online about it!

8. You can keep friends and family updated on your life.

Are you tired of your mom asking you how college or your new job far from home is going? Keep a lifestyle blog and post weekly or monthly updates to keep friends and family back home up-to-date on everything going on!

Honestly, I can’t think of a reason NOT to start to blog. It can take up as little or as much time as you want, and once again, it can BE anything you want. I personally love having memories to look back on in my blog, and I don’t plan on stopping the documentation any time soon.

Consider starting your own blog and see what it can do for you! And until next time, here are some of my favorite memories I’ve had the privilege to write about on my blog:
